Recent Recalls: Steamfast & Brookstone Irons, Screaming Plush Monkeys, Recon LT Avalanche Transceivers

Steamfast is recalling its Home & Away Travel Steam Irons and Brookstone is recalling its Steam Bug Travel Steam Irons.

The power cord can become damaged near the cord bushing, which can lead to overheating of the cord, posing fire and burn hazards. In addition, cord damage near the bushing can result in exposed copper wires, posing a shock hazard.

This recall involves dual voltage Steamfast brand Home and Away Travel Steam Irons with model numbers SF-717, SF-720 and SF-727 and with date codes between January 2008 and March 2017, and Brookstone Steam Bug Travel Steam Irons with model number 606335. The model numbers and the production date codes are printed on the back of the irons. Steamfast or Brookstone are printed on the white irons.

The recalled Steamfast and Brookstone irons can also be identified by the length of the cord bushing. The recalled irons have a gray or black cord bushing that extends less than one inch from the enclosure along the power cord.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled irons and visit the Steamfast or Vornado website to register for the recall and receive a refund of $19.99.

Vornado has received 50 reports of incidents, including 38 reports of the iron’s power cord smoking, sparking, burning or other signs of overheating and 12 reports of cord damage. No injuries have been reported.

The irons were sold at  Walmart, Bed Bath & Beyond and other stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com, Vornado.com, Steamfast.com, and other online retailers from January 2009 through May 2018 and Brookstone between 2009 and 2013 for between $13 and $30.

Screaming Plush Monkey Toys      

This recall involves Screaming Plush Monkeys in brown, blue and pink. The monkeys are 23 inches long and make a scream-like sound when the front paw is pressed. The front paws of the plush monkey have Velcro so that the monkey’s arms can be wrapped around a consumer’s neck. Model TM-3280 and Diamond Visions, Inc. are printed on a tag on the monkey.

The eyes on the toy can detach, posing a choking hazard to children.

Consumers should immediately take the recalled toys away from children and contact Diamond Visions for instructions on how to receive a full refund.

They were sold at independent hardware and variety stores nationwide from September 2021 through November 2022 for about $6.    

Recon LT Avalanche Transceivers    

Black Diamond is recalling Recon LT Avalanche Transceivers. They can unexpectedly enter search mode due to interference from other beacons. If this occurs, the device could fail to transmit the position of survivors of an avalanche, resulting in delayed search and rescue operations, which could result in severe bodily harm or death if the skier is buried under snow.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled transceivers and perform a free repair which consists of a firmware update which is done by downloading the Pieps App for iOS or Android devices, connecting the transceiver via Bluetooth, and then following the on-screen prompts to receive a full refund. Consumers can also take the recalled transceivers to a Black Diamond store or ship the transceiver to the Black Diamond service center to have the firmware installed.

This recall involves Black Diamond Recon LT avalanche transceivers, Black Diamond Alpine Avy Safety Sets and Black Diamond Recon LT Avy Safety Sets. The recalled transceivers were sold as a standalone unit and as part of an avalanche safety set. The transceivers are plastic with an LCD screen. They have a gray exterior and a blue top. The Black Diamond logo and model name are on the front of the unit. The following three models have UPC codes located on the product’s box.

The firm has received seven reports of the transceiver mode changing while in use. No injuries have been reported.                                                                                                                                

The devices were sold at Liberty Mountain, Recreational Equipment Inc. (REI) and other specialty outdoor stores nationwide and online at www.blackdiamond.com, www.backcountry.com and www.evo.com from May 2021 through March 2023 for between $350 and $500.
