Recent Recalls: PowerXL Juicers, EGO Hedge Trimmer, Jetson Electric Scooters

PowerXL Self-Cleaning Juicers are being recalled.The juicers can rupture during use, striking consumers and posing a laceration hazard, or can leave small particle shavings in the juice, posing an ingestion hazard.

This recall involves PowerXL Models SHL96 and SHL90-SC Self-Cleaning Juicers. They are countertop, brushed stainless steel, self-cleaning juicers, with a built-in automatic shut-off system. The PowerXL logo is located on the front of the juicer. The model numbers and UPC codes are printed on the bottom of the Model SHL96 and on the back of the SHL90-SC juicer.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled PowerXL Self-Cleaning Juicers and contact Empower Brands to receive a full refund.  

Empower Brands is aware of 261 reports of incidents including 47 reports of injuries, some of which involved severe cuts requiring emergency treatment, stitches, bruises and ingestion of small particles requiring medical attention.                                                                    

Model SHL90-SC was sold at Walmart and other stores nationwide and online at www.walmart.com and model SHL96 was sold at BJ’s Wholesale Club, CVS, Kohl’s, Marshall’s, Target, T.J. Maxx, Walmart, and other stores nationwide, including online at www.amazon.com from September 2020 through August 2022 for between $65 and $100.        

EGO Power Hedge Trimmer

EGO Power+ Model HT2410 Cordless Brushless Hedge Trimmers are being recalled. The rear switch trigger can fail to rebound after being pressed, which can cause the unit to activate unexpectedly, posing a laceration hazard.

This recall involves EGO Power+ Model HT2410 Cordless Brushless Hedge Trimmers that were manufactured prior to March 30, 2019. The hedge trimmers have a gray, black and green housing, yellow, 24-inch dual-action steel blade, a black loop handle with a green switch trigger in front of the product housing, and rear switch trigger underneath the rear handle. The EGO logo is displayed on one side of the product housing, and the model number HT2410 and manufacturing date code are displayed on the opposite side.  Only units with date codes from September 2017 through March 2019 are included in this recall.

The hedge trimmers are powered by a removable battery and were sold as a bare tool with no battery, or in a combination kit which included EGO POWER+ 2.5 Ah battery and a POWER+ 56-volt charger.  All units are marked with the model number HT2410.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled hedge trimmers and contact Chervon for a free repair of the rear trigger switch.

The firm has received 34 reports in the U.S. of the trimmers starting unexpectedly, including eight reports of lacerations requiring stitches.

The trimmers were sold by home improvement stores, hardware stores and authorized dealers and distributors nationwide and online at Acehardware.com, Acmetools.com and Homedepot.com from September 2017 through March 2020 for between $150 and $220.

Jetson Electric Scooters

Jetson Nova and Star 3-Wheel Kick Scooters are being recalled. The rear wheel can loosen or fall off the scooter, posing a fall hazard to children.

This recall involves Jetson Nova and Star 3-Wheel Kick Scooters. The scooters were sold in five colors including green, teal, blue, purple and red. The scooters measure about 23 inches tall by 11 inches wide by 5.8 inches deep. A label on the base of the scooters has the model and serial numbers. Only scooters with the following model and serial numbers are included in the recall:

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Jetson Nova and Star 3-Wheel Kick Scooters and contact Jetson for a free repair kit. The kit includes two screws, two bolts and an Allen key, along with repair instructions and a QR code link to an installation video. Consumers will not need additional tools to install the repair kit.  

The firm has received 12 reports of the wheels loosening or falling off the scooters, including one report of an injury involving scratches/bruises to a child’s face.              

The bikes were sold at Target stores nationwide and online at Target.com and www.ridejetson.com from September 2022 through February 2023 for about $40.
