Recent Recalls: LumaRail Bed Rails; Jack-O-Lantern Candles; Lancaster High Chairs

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Platinum Health LLC, of Orlando, Florida, are announcing the recall of about 53,000 LumaRail brand adult portable bed rails. The recalled bed rails pose a risk of entrapment and asphyxia because users can become entrapped within the rail, or between the rail and mattress.

Platinum has received one report of a death involving the Bed Assist Rail with Legs (model PHB4000). In October 2021, an 81-year-old man at a nursing home in Pennsylvania died from positional asphyxia after becoming entrapped between his mattress and the bed rail.

This recall involves the Bed Assist Rail with Legs (model PHB4000), Free Standing Bed Assist Rail (model PHB6000) and the DoubleSafe Bed Assist Rail (model PHB7000D).

The bed rails are made of white metal tubing with a gray or black foam rubber grip handle and may have a black fabric pouch. The name “Platinum Health” is printed on a label located on the leg of the bed rail or on the grip handle. The bed rails also have a light mount below the grip handle.

Platinum Health sold the recalled bed rails on its website, PlatinumHealthLLC.com, through major online retailers including Amazon, Walmart.com, eBay, and Overstock, and through online medical supply stores nationwide including RehabMart and Fabrication Enterprises. The bed rails were sold from July 2015 through December 2022 for between $65 and $100.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bed rails and contact Platinum Health for a free repair kit. Consumers who use model PHB7000D on twin beds will receive a free replacement bedrail redesigned to properly fit twin beds.

Jack-O-Lantern Candles

Mainstays Three-Wicked Candles in round 14-ounce glass jars were sold with Halloween and autumn themes. The candle wicks can burn too close to the side of the container, causing the glass to break, posing fire and laceration hazards.

The candles were sold with a metal lid and in seven different names: Jack-O-Lantern, Mystic Fog, Warm Apple Pie, Warm Fall Leaves, Fall Farm House, Pumpkin Spice and Magic Potion. Mainstays and the candle’s name are printed on the side of the candle. The candles are about 4 inches long by 4 inches wide.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled candles and contact Star Soap Star Candle Prayer Candle to receive a full refund.

Lancaster High Chairs

This recall involves Lancaster Table & Seating brand high chairs. The high chairs have black, mahogany, natural or walnut finishes and were sold in either assembled or ready-to-assemble form.  Only high chairs manufactured in China are affected.  “Made in China” or “made in ____” is printed on the warning label found on the front of the seatback and on the product label found on the underside of the seat bottom.  The model number is printed in the label on the underside of the seat bottom.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled high chairs and return them to any of the Restaurant Store locations in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware or Maryland or contact Clark Associates for a free replacement or refund in the form of a store credit and instructions on how to properly discard the product. Consumers will be asked to submit a photo of the dismantled or destroyed product and dispose of it.

The firm has received three reports of high chairs breaking while in use and children falling.  No injuries have been reported.
