Hyundai, Kia Recall 570,000 Vehicles, Ask Owners to Park Them Outside

Hyundai and Kia are recalling 570,000 vehicles because an electrical short could develop and start a fire. Owners should park the cars outside, away from buildings or anything flammable, the companies said.

The affected vehicles are model years 2022-2023 Hyundai Santa Cruz, 2019-2023 Hyundai Santa Fe, 2021-2023 Santa Fe Hybrid, 2022-2023 Santa Fe Plug-in Hybrid, and 2022-2023 Kia Carnival.

The companies and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said owners should continue to park their vehicles outdoors and away from other vehicles or buildings, even when it is turned off.

An electrical short could potentially start a fire in the tow hitch harness module. Owners should contact their Hyundai or Kia dealership to schedule a free repair.

The recall is related to a recall in August 2022, when 245,000 Hyundai Palisades were recalled because of a fire risk.

This safety recall is a direct result of NHTSA’s monitoring of recall NHTSA 22V-633.

Vehicle owners can visit NHTSA.gov/recalls or call NHTSA’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 and enter their 17-digit vehicle identification number to see if their vehicle is under recall. NHTSA also encourages everyone to download its SaferCar app to stay informed on current recalls.
