All-Clad Lawsuit Nears an End

All-Clad Metalcrafters cookware is said to last nearly forever, which is roughly how long a class-action lawsuit has been working its way through the courts. A federal court judge in Pennsylvania has finally signed off on a $6.5 million settlement agreement.

The lawsuit charged that the company's cookware can be damaged by repeated dish washing despite being advertised as “dishwasher safe.” The settlement benefits a nationwide class of consumers who purchased All-Clad D3, D5 or LTD cookware.

Plaintiffs in the suit claimed that repeated washing of the cookware caused the metal to degrade and created dangerously sharp edges.

The company had originally tried to settle the suit by offering free replacements but the consumers argued that there was no guarantee the replacement cookware wouldn't have the same problem.

Consumers can either seek a replacement of the same type of cookware plus a $75 refund, receive a five-piece fry-pan set or a 13-piece cookware set, or get a 50% credit on future purchases costing up to $1,200 on All-Clad’s website.

Besides the monetary settlement, the company will remove the "dishwasher safe" claim from its marketing and packaging.

Despite the lawsuit, All-Clad products remain a favorite of serious chefs. Wirecutter, the New York Times product review site, awarded the $130 All-Clad D3 frying pan its "best skillet" award in 2022.
